What does a tea pet do?

A tea pet is a small, cute figurine that sits atop a teacup and helps you brew your favorite tea.

Tea pets are small clay figures that are treated with tea each time a tea ceremony is performed.

Over time this changes the patina and the scent of the tea pet.

Tea pets have traditionally been considered symbols of good luck, and pouring tea over them is considered an invitation to prosperity.

How do tea pets change color?

Tea pets change color as they brew.

Some tea pets change color. The principle is very similar to you offering the tea pet water the water flows over the tea pet and it changes color.

Some tea pets change color 100%. Others have selected areas that change.

These tea pets are generally made out of a resin that is sensitive to the water’s heat.

As the tea pet cools down he will return to his original color.

Are tea pets a real thing?

Tea pets are a real thing and they’re adorable.

I asked myself this question a few years ago when I first came across tea pets online.

The idea of it sounded silly to me at first. A pet for tea?

The name can’t be that literal. Honestly, when I first read about tea pets a part of me did think maybe I’m reading the word wrong or it was a typo for the word tea pot.

But, one day Nicole of Tea For Me Please shared a photo of her tea pet and I found myself looking them up all over again.

When I learned that tea pets (not tea pots!) were a real thing I became intrigued and sought out to find one for myself at the first Toronto Tea Festival I attended.

Tea pets are a novelty and they’re not actually very useful.

How do you feed a pet tea?

Feed your pet tea to keep it calm and comfortable.

As mentioned about caffeine, it is better to offer your dog decaf versions of tea or herbal teas.

You could use the loose leaf method and add herbs, flowers, or roots of herbal tea accordingly, depending on what you think your pup could specifically benefit from.

Chamomile and Lavender are particularly good ones to add if they are a hyperactive or anxious dog, perhaps combined with Ginger root to alleviate any nausea.

Feed your pet tea to keep it healthy.

Several of the herbal teas that we brew for ourselves, it seems, can also positively impact the health of our pups in the same way that it does ours!

They can help to improve their digestive and immune system, alleviate inflammation, calm itchy skin, put a spring in their step, detoxify when needed, help with anxiety, and so much more!

Remove any debris before tea pet

In order to maintain your tea pet there are semi-specific instructions for its care.

Under no circumstances, should you use any type of soap or detergent on the tea pet.

Use normal, pure water to gently rinse the figure in between tea sessions, if desired.

It is not required to rinse the pet at all.

Additionally, if you want to thoroughly cleanse the tea pet in between sessions, you can invest in a tea brush to gently scrub away residue.

Make sure you purchase a tea brush with coarse bristles but not so harsh that it will damage or scratch the surface of the tea pet.
